ABOUT ME

Truth - Passion - Activism - Wellness

From as early as I can remember, truth, passion, activism and wellness have been consistent themes in my life.

I grew up in small town Massachusetts and the community just happened to have a yoga ashram with a focus on Mantra meditation and Yoga philosophy. My twin sister and I would often wake up before sunrise and walk to the early morning kirtans to bathe in the beauty of the chants. We were singers as well, and the healing power of voice was something that impacted me then and still does to this day.

My college years in Ithaca, NY were consumed by my passion for singing opera and that carried me thru my mid-30s. Performing on a stage felt like home. Along that path I also developed a love for Yoga and Massage Therapy. I worked as a Registered Massage Therapist for over 10 years, and also taught anatomy and massage techniques at the school where I earned my RMT in Chicago, IL. Working as a massage therapist helped to financially support my performance dreams and the practice of Yoga supported my soul. I realize now that being a teacher of body awareness - first with voice, then massage, years later yoga and today with mindset and clean beauty options - it’s all related. Wellness from the inside-out was, and continues to be the thread to this day.

Activism and female empowerment have also been integral parts of my life - from living my truth and fluid sexuality, to Womyn’s Marches and LGBTQ Protests in my 20s. I have always surrounded myself with empowered women not afraid to fully BE their authentic selves in the world. In my 30s, my truth led me to Atlanta, GA and on my 35th birthday I married my life partner, Charles - a world class musician, father and exquisite human. It was around this time that I let go of the tight grip around my operatic goals and opened my heart to a new path: teaching Yoga and chanting Mantra. It was the process of letting go of who I thought I was ‘supposed’ to be, that finally showed me who I truly was.

Our family began to grow as well, with the birth of our daughter, Stella Mackenzie in 2011 and Arthur Lotis in 2015. Stella had extreme eczema and environmental allergies as a toddler - and as a holistic minded mama, I searched and searched for something to help her. Nothing worked, in fact most remedies - “natural” and otherwise just made her skin worse. When a friend introduced me to Beautycounter in 2016, I remember feeling hesitant, however, my friend knew that these products as well as the purpose-driven mission would resonate with me. Once I finally listened, I realized she was right.

We now live in Toronto, ON where Charles plays as the Principal Percussionist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. My home-based Beautycounter business has grown to a full-on career - as I spend most of my days coaching and mentoring other women with mindset tips on how to step into their inner courage and share about the clean beauty movement. It’s about using our collective voices for something bigger than ourselves and being a wellness advocate with education at the core.

Beautycounter has become a platform for me to share about it all and I am so thankful for the opportunity to serve in this way with all of YOU.

PS- Stella's skin also loved the brand, her skin cleared up and she grew out of the extreme allergies - the rest is HerStory!
